Three Do It Yourself SEO Tips

3 DIY SEO Tips for Small Businesses to Generate Businesses Online

If you are a new or small business and didn’t have a sufficient budget to afford a SEO Consultant this post is specially designed for you. I am going to discuss some do-it-yourself stuff you should do if you don’t have the budget to hire a SEO agency or consultant. Before I start with these tips, I must tell you that you will find many SEOs in the market who may offer you top 10 rankings from desiriable key phrases within incredibly nominal budgets. Beware, small budget SEO services hit your business hard and you may face long term penalties by search engine.

SEO is not rocket science and let me quote Aaron Wall ‘SEO is Pain’ but the real world fact is it’s important and it’s really important for most of the businesses present today. Small business owners can follow this advice to kick start the SEO on their website and gain leads and rankings in search engines. As your business grows you can easily invest in SEO by hiring a professional SEO Consultant.

Reach Local:

You might have hear a shout while back that it is important to get your business local, it was the time when Google included places result in organic listings and it is getting more important now as Bing introduced a new business portal that helps local businesses get more exposure.

Small businesses should get local by registering and verifying their businesses to Google Places, Bing Maps, Bing Business Portal and Yahoo local, by doing this business will be getting the search engine exposure and also letting people know that you are a legitimate business person and serious about your business.

With local maps and registering yourself on yellow page and review websites like Yelp.com and others,  small business can expose your business to the wider audience and get some quality leads for their businesses.

Pro Tip: Try to get good customer feedbacks (may be by requesting your existing customers) on Maps and yellow pages websites. This will attract more visitors watching you online and most likely you will get more leads for your business.

Get Social:

Social Media Optimization, this is the most common buzz around these days and people are discussing a lot about social media and how businesses can get benefit from it. For the small business with limited marketing budget, social media is heaven on earth if used properly.

Social Media is the next big thing in Internet Marketing and small businesses can get maximum out of it. Small business owners should spend time and resources to set up a Fan page on facebook and similarly a twitter page for their customers. Use basic social media like twitter and facebook to entertain customers and offer services on twitter. Its also a great thing to offer special discount to your fans on facebook and twitter and other online sources  in order  to drive valuable leads to your business.

Pro Tip: There are lots of social media available on the internet today and you can choose as many as you want but try to focus the basic 2 or 3 where you can stay active. Having no community is better than dead community.

Let’s Engage:

Engaging is the key, people in the 21st century wanted to connect and business with the real people instead of logos and companies and this is the golden opportunity for small businesses that unfortunately most of them are missing.

Connect with the people by blogging, through forums and answer websites such as Yahoo answers, Quora and others.  The more you engage the more visibility you will have which will get people to find you ‘Real’. Show yourself as the expert instead of begging for business and business will come to you.

Pro Tip: Begging for business will take you nowhere, try to help people and people will come to you. Blog regularly, answer questions and solve their problems for free. Position yourself as an expert of that field and you will start getting good and reputable business out of it.

Conclusion:

Internet Marketing evolves and is a need of almost every business present today. Small businesses to large multinationals need Internet Marketing services to grow and brand their businesses.

If you follow the tips discussed above you will get some great success. SEO or Internet Marketing is not rocket science, it cannot be done within days, it needs time and continuity and results can be outstanding in terms of businesses development and branding.

It will be great if you share your prospective through comments.

One of the proven ways to connect with customers would be to start a blog on their own site. Registering at facebook, yahoo answers and other places, as You suggested, is nice, but to keep people engaged you should: (1) have great content at your own site and (2) update it regularly. Publish the most valuable information at your blog. You want to build a brand and recognition, and this will help a lot.

some Great addition Tom, I do agree that having a blog or a social media profile is not enough… you should update it regularly and share some valuable information that readers can stick up to it and subscribe the blog for the future.

Reputation management is not only about having and identity but having a active participation bring loyal fan base and finally more business.
